Shell Afghan
12 skeins worsted weight yarn OR for rainbow effect, 3 skeins of 4 colors plus one skein of contrasting color for border
size “J” crochet hook or whatever sized hook is needed to produce the gauge
gauge: 1 row = 1”
52” x 60” or desired length
stitch pattern: multiple of 6 plus 5
Ch 141.
Row 1: 2 tr in 6th ch from hook, *sk 2 ch, 1 dc in next ch, sk 2 ch, 5 tr in next ch*, (shell made) repeat *.* across, ending with sk 2 ch, 1 dc in last ch. Ch 4, turn.
Row 2: 2 tr in first dc, *1 dc in center of tr of next shell, 5 tr in next dc*, repeat *.* across, ending 1 dc in turning ch.
Repeat rows 1-2 for pattern.
Finishing: weave in ends.
Border:
Row 1: Attach yarn at edge except at corner and work sc around, working 3 sc in each corner. join with sl st. ch 1, turn.
Row 2: 1 sc in each st and 3 sc in each corner, join with sl st, ch 1, turn.
Row 3: 1 sc in each st and 3 sc in each corner, join with sl st and fasten off.

Ch 4, join into ring. ch 1.
Round 1: Work 8 sc around, join, ch 1.
Round 2: Work 2 sc in each st around, join, ch 1.
Round 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next st* rep *.* around, join, ch 1.
Round 4: *2 sc, 2 sc in next st* rep *.* around, join, ch 1.

Classic Kitchen Towel
1 kitchen towel approx. 14” x 24” (makes 2 towels)
4-ply worsted weight yarn
size 6 steel crochet hook
size “G” crochet hook
Zig zag or sew 2 lines across the center of the towel. Cut between the sewing stitches forming two towels.
Row 1: With the #6 steel hook. sc across the cut edge of the towel, making the sts about ¼” apart. Ch 2, turn.
Row 2: With G hook, dc in every st across row. Ch 3, turn.
Row 3: Dc in every other st across row, ch 3, turn.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 until only 6 or 8 sts remain or desired thickness. Dc in every st for 8 to 10 rows. Fasten Off. Weave in ends. Sew button on inside front on bottom row of the 6 or 8 sts. No buttonhole is required. The button will fit between the center dc’s.

Kitchen Scrubber
See "How-To Knit or Crochet With Fabric"
16 yds 1-1/4” wide nylon netting
#J crochet hook or whatever sized hook for desired effect
Ch 8.
Row 1: sc in 2nd st from hook, sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat Row 1 until out of netting or desired length. Fasten off.
This scrubber can be made larger or smaller by the number of sts worked or the amount of netting used.

Chair Leg Booties
materials: heavy-weight crochet cotton and appropriate crochet hook
Ch 4 and join. Make a “round” by sc “into the ring” until piece measures the diameter of the chair leg (see “How-To Crochet in Rounds”). There should be enough sts equal to the diameter of the chair leg. Work even until piece is long enough to cover the chair leg. Fasten off and weave in end. Place bootie on chair leg and secure with ribbon or elastic is necessary.

Coat Hanger
materials: 4 ply yarn, 1 crochet hook, wooden hanger
Ch 50 – (9 groups). Work 6 dc in 4th ch from hook. Sk 2 ch, sc – sk 2 ch, 6 dc in next stitch. Repeat until there are 9 groups of 6 dc. Then work back on other side of chain in same manner. Make 2 pieces. Sc together around wood hanger. Put ribbon bow, pom pom or where the hook joins the hanger for decoration.

Instructions for a 6-1/2” circumference bottle with (8” circumference bottle in parenthesis.)
Ch 4, join into ring. ch 1.
Round 1: Work 8 sc around, join, ch 1.
Round 2: Work 2 sc in each st around, join, ch 1.
Round 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next st* rep *.* around, join, ch 1.
Round 4: *2 sc, 2 sc in next st* rep *.* around, join, ch 1.

Coasters – Square
worsted weight yarn
“G” or "H" crochet hook
Ch 19, turn.
Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc across, ch 1 turn. Repeat until piece measures about 4” or desired length. Work one or two rows of sc around, working 3 sc in each corner. Fasten off. Weave in ends as required.

Crocheted Placemats (set of 4)
4 skeins rug yarn in main color (MC)
4 skeins rug yarn in contrasting color (CC)
size 1 crochet hook
gauge: 3 sc = 1”
With CC, ch 52.
Row 1: sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across, 51 sts. Ch 1 and turn every row.
Row 2: *3 sc, change to MC, 3 sc, change to CC, 3 sc* rep *.* across. Note, when changing colors, always draw new color through last two loops of old color on hook.
Rows 3, 4: Repeat Row 2.
Rows 5, 6: *3 sc with MC, 3 sc with CC* rep *.* across.
Rows 7, 8: Repeat Row 2.
Row 9: Drop CC and work with MC until piece measure 9”.
Work pattern to match the other side.
Work one row sc in CC on each short side.

Crochet Throw Rug
minimum of 10 yards of fabric, cut on the bias and sewn together, forming a continuous fabric strip for rug approximately 25” x 45”

Gauge = 5 sts = 2” or whatever sized hook is needed to produce the gauge
Finished Size: 25” x 45” or desired length
Ch 63, turn.
Row 1: Sc in second st from hook, sc across row. Repeat row 1 until desired length. Finish off.

Grocery Bag Holder
Hang this holder any convenient place in the kitchen to store and recycle plastic grocery bags. Simply place bags into the top and when needed, pull out from the bottom.
worsted weight yarn
“H” crochet hook
10” – 12” elastic
ribbon for hanger (optional)
Ch 64, or any number that will produce a piece approx. 16” wide. Join into ring.
Round 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc across. Ch 4, turn.
Round 2: Tr in 2nd ch from hook, tr across. Ch 3, turn.
Round 3: Dc in 2nd ch from hook, dc across, ch 3, turn. Repeat Round 3 until piece measures about 25” (overall length will determine the size of the finished bag holder). Repeat Round 2 once. Repeat Round 1 once. Fasten off. Weave in ends as required.
Hanger: ch appropriate length and fasten off. (If hanging this bag over a doorknob, the chain hanger length should be long enough to slip over the largest part of the knob plus 1-1/2”.)
Thread elastic through one tr row and secure elastic ends together. Thread chain hanger or ribbon through the other tr row and secure ends together. Decorate or embellish as desired.

Secret Money Pouch by Craft Yarn Council of America
Material: small amount of crochet cotton. Size 6 steel crochet hook. 1-1/2” safety pin.
Row 1: Ch 59, dc in 8th ch from hk, *ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc in next ch*, repeat between * * to last ch, ch 5, turn. (18 ch sp, 19 dc include turning ch)
Note: Ch 5 will count as 1st dc and ch 2.
Row 2: Dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in next dc, *(2 dc in ch 2 sp, dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in next dc) 3 times*, (ch 2 dc in next dc) 3 times, repeat between * * once, ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc in 3rd ch of beg ch 8.
Rows 3-13: Repeat row 2 except dc in 3rd ch of each beg ch 5.
Rows 14-15: Dc in next dc, *ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc in next dc,* repeat between * * to last dc, turn.
Row 16: *ch 3, 2 dc in ch sp, sl st in next dc*, repeat between * * to last dc.
Finishing the pouch: fold piece in half, make sure meshes are lined up. ch 1, make 3 sc in each sp, with 6 sc at each of the two corners at the bottom, end sc at top of row 15, *ch 22, hold safety pin up side down, sc around the pin, ch 22, insert hk under ch 2 sp of row 15 of the front half, sc in ch 2 sp of row 15 of the back half,* repeat between the * * to the last 22 ch that come from the pin, sl st to the 1st sc of the outer edge of pouch, fasten off.

Shopping Bag
4 skeins rug yarn, size "I" crochet hook, 2-7" diameter wooden handles
Beg at center bottom of bag, ch 6, join with a sl st to 1st ch to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch 3, work 13 dc in ring. Join with sl st to top of ch 3 (14 dc including ch 3).
Round 2: Ch 3, dc in sp before next dc *3 dc in next dc*, rep *.* around to last dc, 3 dc in last dc, sl st to top of ch 3 (35 dc).
Round 3: Ch 3, *dc in same dc, 2 dc in next dc*, rep *.* around, join with sl st to top of ch 3 (52 dc).
Round 4: *ch 5, sk 2 dc, sc in next dc (ch 5, sk 1 dc, sc in next dc) 10 times, ch 5, sk 2 dc, sc in next dc*, rep *.* once (24 lps.)

Work 4 rows of dc, with ch to turn at beg of row, fasten off. Join yarn at other side and work to correspond to 1st side. Fold last 2 rows of dc over handles and overcast to form hem and secure handles.

Take-It Anywhere Tote Bag
8 skeins rug yarn or double strands of worsted weight yarn may be used together
size “H” or “I” crochet hook or whatever sized hook is needed to produce the gauge
gauge: 3 sc = 1”, 7 rows = 2”
MAIN PIECE:
Ch 39.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each st across. Ch I, turn.
Row 2: Sc in each st across, ch 1, turn.
Repeat row 2 for 68 additional rows. Mark the center 35th row. Fasten off.
GUSSET PIECES (make 2):
Ch 13.
Row 1: repeat row 1 of Main Piece. Mark the center 6th st.
Row 2: repeat row 2 of Main Piece.
Repeat row 2 for 27 additional rows. Fasten off.
Aligning the center st markers, pin together the wrong sides of gusset pieces and long the long edge of the main piece. On the right side work 2 sc in every other row along sides and bottom of gusset. Repeat for other gusset. Work 2 rows of sc around the top of the bag.
SIDE POCKETS (make 2 - optional):
Ch 23.
Row 1. repeat row 1 of Main Piece.
Row 2: repeat row 2 of Main Piece.
Repeat row 2 for 21 additional rows. Fasten off.
Center pockets on bag Main Piece and sew in place around sides and bottom of pocket.
STRAP:
Ch 5.
Row 1. repeat row 1 of Main Piece.
Row 2: repeat row 2 of Main Piece.
Repeat row 2 until piece measures 60” long.
Mark the middle of each strap end. Align the marks with the marks on the side gusset/main piece and sew strap in place. Repeat on other gusset side of bag.
BOTTOM OF BAG (optional):
Cut a piece if stiff cardboard 14” x 4-3/4” (or size to fit the bottom of the bag). Push cardboard into the bottom of the bag.
Weave in all ends.
