Ladies Belted Pocketed Vest
size 10 (12,14,16,18) with changes in parenthesis.
12-14 oz worsted weight yarn
size 9 knitting needles or whatever sized needle is needed to produce the gauge
size 5 crochet hook
gauge: 9 sts = 2
Pattern Stitch – Seed Stitch: Row 1: k1, p1, across row. Row 2: p1, k1 across row.
Pattern Stitch Stockinette: Row 1: k across row. Row 2: p across row.
BACK:
Cast on 71 (75,85,89) sts and work in seed st for 10 rows. Work even in stockinette for 18-1/2” or ½” less than desired underarm length. Begin seed st on 14 sts, work stockinette to last 14 sts, work rem 14 sts in seed st. Repeat for 10 rows.
Shape Armhole: Bind off 8 sts, work seed st for 6 sts, work across stockinette to last 14 sts, work 6 sts of seed st and bind off last 8 sts – break yarn. join yarn, work even keeping 6 sts each side in seed st until armhole measures 6-1/4” (6-1/2”, 7-1/4”, 7-1/2”, 8”). Bind off 5 sts every row for 6 rows. Bind off rem sts.
LEFT FRONT:
Cast on 39(41,45,47,39) sts. Work 10 rows of seed st. With right side facing, k to last 6 sts (front border) work 6 seed st. Continue same as BACK to 1-1/2” before underarm border. (beg of seed st for underarm.)
Neck Shaping: Work 14 seed st for underarm border, work stockinette to last 8 sts, k2tog. Work 6 seed st. (1st dec made) repeat dec every 4th row 9 (10,11,12,13) times – at the same time keep the 14 seed st at underarm in pattern until there are 10 rows of seed st.
Armhole: Bind off 8 sts, work 6 seed sts (armhole border) continue until armhole measures same as Back. Bind off same as for Back 5 sts at a time for shaping shoulder keeping 6 seed sts of front border for 2-1/4” (2-1/2”, 2-1/2”, 3”, 3”) more. Bind off.
RIGHT FRONT:
Cast on same as Left Front – work seed st border for 8 rows. Buttonhole: Work 2 seed st, bind off 2 sts – continue 9th row in seed st. 10th row: work across to bind off, cast on 2 sts in pattern. *Make 4 buttonholes in front border – 1 every 4”. Work to correspond to Left Front Neck Shaping. Work 6 seed sts, sl 1 st, k1, psso (1st dec on right front). Continue same as Left Front, reversing all shaping.
POCKETS: (make 2) Cast on 20 sts and work in stockinette for 3”, then 10 rows of seed st. Bind off.
BELT: Cast on 6 sts, work in seed st for 33 (35,37,39,41) inches. Make one buttonhole on one end.
FINISH: Crochet chain st loops about 2” long (make 2) to hold belt. Sew to each side above pockets. Join side seams and shoulders. Weave front borders together at center neck then weave onto back piece. Sc around sleeve and neck edges.

Row 10: k2, p10, k2.
Repeat rows 1-10 for right front cable stitch pattern.
BACK:
Cast on 73(83,93) sts. Work k1, p1 ribbing for 4”. Inc 1 sts at beg and end of row and repeat this inc every 4th row, 4 times. Work even on 83(93,103) sts until piece measures 10”. On the next row, k1, p1 in seed st on 11(13,13) sts for underarm band, place a marker on needle, work in established ribbing pattern on next 61(67,77) sts, place a marker, work seed st on rem 11(13,13) sts for underarm band. Continue working 11(13,13) sts of seed st at beg and end of row and at the same time, work rib st in center section for 6 more rows, ending on wrong side.
Shape Armhole: At beg and end of next 2 rows, bind off 6(6,8) sts. work 5 sts in seed st at armband, dec 1 st in rib pattern to 2 sts before marker, dec 1 st, work rem 5 sts in seed st. Dec 1 st at beg and end of row every other row 3 more times. Work even on 63(69,79) sts until armhole measures 7-1/2”(8”, 8-1/2”).
Shape Shoulder: At the beg and end of next 4 rows, bind off 7(7,8) sts. At the beg and end of next 2 rows, bind off 6(6,7) sts. Bind off rem sts.
LEFT FRONT:
Cast on 43(46,51) sts. Work seed st for 9 rows. On next row, k11(13,15), place marker, work row 1 of Stitch Pattern For Left Front on 14 sts, place marker, k13(14,17), place marker, work 5 sts in seed st for front band.
Row 2: Work 5 sts in seed st, p to marker, work row 2 of Stitch Pattern For Left Front, p to end. Keeping 5 sts at front edge in seed st and 14 sts between markers in Stitch Pattern For Left Front, work rem sts in stockinette until piece measures 4”, ending at armhole edge. On the next row at same edge, inc 1 st every 4 rows 4 times. Work even in pattern on 48(51,56) sts until piece measures 10”, ending at armhole edge.
Shape Neck and Armhole: Work 11(13,13) sts in seed st for underarm border, place marker, work in pattern st to 2 sts before last marker, k2tog (neck dec), work seed st to end of row. Continue to dec 1 st at neck edge every 4th row 11(12,15) times, and at the same time, when piece measures same as back to underarm ending at arm edge, shape the armhole.
Shape Armhole: Bind off 6(8,8) sts, work to end of row. Keeping 5 sts at arm edge in seed st, dec 1 st at same edge every other row 4 times. Work even on 26(26,28) sts until armhole measures 7-1/2”(8”, 8-1/2”).
Shape Shoulder: At arm edge, bind off 7(7,8) sts twice and 7 sts once. Continue in seed st on rem 5 sts for 2-1/2”(2-1/2”, 2-3/4”). Bind off.
RIGHT FRONT:
Work to correspond to left front, reversing front band placement, pattern sts and all shaping and forming first buttonhole when piece measures 1-1/4”.
Buttonhole: Starting at front edge, work 3 sts in seed pattern, yo, k2tog, work to end of row. Make 4 more buttonholes evenly spaced along front edge, the last one to be made 3/4 ” below start of neck shaping.
Finishing:
Join underarm and shoulder seams. Join neckband and join to back of neck. Sew on buttons. Weave in ends.

BACK:
Cast on 73(83,93) sts. Work even in stockinette until piece measures 3-1/2”, ending with p row. Continue in stockinette and inc 1 st at beg and end of row. Repeat this inc in 4 rows, once. Work even on 77(87,97) sts until piece measures 9-1/2”, ending with p row.
Armhole Shaping: At beg and end of next 2 rows, bind off 4(5,5) sts. Dec 1 st at beg and end every other row 6(7,7) times, 57(63,73) sts. Work even until armhole measures 7-1/2”(8”, 8-1/2”).
Shoulder Shaping: At beg and end of next 4 rows, bind off 6(6,7) sts. At the beg of the next 2 rows, bind off 6(6,8) sts. Bind off rem sts.
LEFT FRONT:
Cast on 2 sts. Working in stockinette, on the armhole edge cast on 3 sts 5 times and 12(17,22) sts once, and at the same time, at the front edge inc 1 st every other row 7 times. Work even on 36(41,46) sts until piece measures 4”, ending at armhole edge. On the next row at the armhole edge inc 1 st and repeat this inc every 4th row once, and at the same time, when piece measures 6-1/2” start shaping neck. To shape neck, at the front edge dec 1 st and repeat this dec every 6(6,4) rows 9(10,13) times more, and at the same time, when piece measures 9-1/2” start shaping armhole. To shape armhole, at the arm edge bind off 4(5,5) sts. Dec 1 st at same edge every other row 6(6,7) times. When all dec have been worked, work even on 18(20,22) sts until armhole measures 7-1/2”(8”, 8-1/2”). Shape shoulder, at armhole edge bind off 6(6,7) sts twice and 6(8,8) sts once.
RIGHT FRONT:
Reversing all shaping, work to corresponding left front.
Finishing: Join underarm and shoulder seams.
Edging: Round 1: Starting at right front neck edge, work sc around, working 3 sc in each point, join, turn. Round 2: Make 5 buttonholes. Continue working sc and at the beg of neck shaping, evenly space and work *1 sc, ch 2, sk 2 sts,* repeat *.* for 4 additional buttonholes with the last buttonhole at the start of the point shaped edge, continue sc around, join, turn. Work one additional row of sc, working 2 sc in ch 2 space. Fasten off. Work 3 rounds of sc around each armhole edge. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Sew on buttons.

Quickie One Skein Top or Vest
1 skein worsted weight yarn
size 17 and 19 knitting needles or whatever sized needle is needed to produce the gauge
gauge: 2 sts=1”, 4 rows = 1”
(Make 2) With size 17 needle, starting at lower edge, cast on 44 sts. Work in k2, p2 rib for 7 rows. Change to size 19 needle, work 41 rows of k. Bind off loosely.
Join pieces together at side seams leaving 7” open at top for armholes. Join shoulder seam, leaving 10” open at center for neck.

Priceless Pretzel Pullover Stripe Sweater
Small and (Large) sizes are made using sport weight yarn, medium and (extra-large) sizes are made using 4 ply worsted weight yarn
small (large): 8(10) oz various textures of sport weight yarn 16” (24”) circular needle size 5 and 29”(36”) circular needle size 7
medium (extra-large): 8(10) skeins of various textures of 4 ply worsted weight yarn, 24” circular needle size 5 and 36” circular needle size 8
gauge: approx 5-1/2 sts = 1” (on size 7 needle), approx 4 sts = 1” (on size 8 needle)
On #5 needle, cast on 136(158) sts with color A. Join round, being careful not to twist sts. Work k1, p1 ribbing for 2-1/2”, inc 16(22) sts evenly spaced on last row of ribbing.
Change to larger needle and color B. Knit 1 round, placing markers at beg of row and after 76th (90th) st. Knit 2 more rounds, purl the next round.
Knit the next round as follows: K to the 1st marker, cast on 136 (158) sts, place another marker, k to next marker, cast on 136(158) sts, place 4th marker – 424(496) sts.
Following the strip pattern below, decrease 1 st on each side of marker every other row as follows: K to within 2 sts of marker, sl 1 st, k 1, psso, move marker to right needle, k2tog.
When all stripes are complete, bind off in seed st. Weave side seams, leaving 8”(9”) for armholes. Work one row of single crochet and one row of reverse single crochet around neck and armholes, if desired.

Work cast on round as follows: Knit to the first marker, cast on 15(25) sts, pick up 105(108) sts of first sleeve (see instructions below), cast on 15(25) sts, place marker; k to next marker, cast on 15(25) sts, pick up 106(108) sts of second sleeve (see instructions below), cast on 15(25) sts, place fourth marker – 424(496) sts on needle. Continue to work sweater from 6th round (decreases) as per instructions above.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR SLEEVES: Cast on 20(50) sts in color #1 and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1 for 1-1/2”. Work as given for Stripe Pattern above (beginning Round 1 with no cast ons in Round 5), increasing 4 sts evenly on every row until there are 106(108 sts on needle. Continue to work, following Stripe Pattern above until you have worked to Round 39 (Round 48), then work Rounds 1-4 of Stripe Pattern. Make two sleeves and place on holder. With larger needle, work in stockinette for 12” or desired length to underarm. Mark the beg and end of next row for start of underarm. Work even for an additional 6-1/2” (7”, 7”, 7-1/2”) ending on a p row. Shape Neck: k29 (31, 33, 35) sts, place center 30(32,34,36) sts on holder, join another skein of yarn and work rem 29 (31,33,35) sts. Work both sides at same time. Dec 1 st at each neck edge every row 8 times – 21(23,25,27) sts each side. Work even until armhole measures 8” (8-1/2”, 8-1/2”, 9”), ending with p row. Bind off.
FRONT:
Work same as back until 2 rows above armhole markers, ending w p row (88(94,100,106) sts.
Shape V-Neck: k 44(47,50,53) sts, join 2nd skein of yarn and k 44(47,50,53) sts. Work both sides at same time. Dec 1 st at neck edge once, then every 3rd row 8 times more, then every other roe 14 (15, 16,17) times more – 21(23,25,27) sts each side. Work until same length as back to shoulder. Bind off.
Finishing: Join left shoulder seam and work neckband.
Neckband: With smaller needle and right sides facing, pick up and k 48(50,52,54) sts across back neck including sts from holder, pick up and k 52(55,55,58) sts along left v-neck front, place marker, pick up and k 52(55,55,58) sts along right v-neck front – 152(160,162,170) sts. Work k1, p1 ribbing to marker, start with same st as before marker, work k1, p1 ribbing to end. Continue working ribbing and dec 1 st each side of marker on every row for 3/4 ”. Bind off in ribbing.
Armband: Join right shoulder and neckband. With smaller needle and right sides facing, pick up and k 85(91,91,97) sts along armhole edge, between markers. Work 3/4 ” of k1, p1 ribbing. Bind off in ribbing. Join side seams and armhole bands. Weave in all ends.

Easy Triangle Garter Stitch Scarf or Shawl
This scarf or shawl can be made with any yarn and any sized needles appropriate to the yarn. For a lovely lacy look, use needles much larger than normal.
Cast on 2 sts.
Row 1: YO, k1, place marker, k1.
Row 2: YO, k to marker, slip marker, inc, k to end.
Repeat Row 2 to desired length.
Bind off very loosely.

Positively Last Minute Shawl by Kathryn Gunn
Use LARGE needles and whatever yarn you fancy but mohair works well...
Cast on 3 sts.
Yarn over needle knit to the end of the row.
Repeat this row (thus adding one stitch per row) until it is the size you want or you have run out of time or yarn - having saved enough for a fringe.
CAST OFF LOOSELY!
Then get the kids or your partner or someone who needs to be occupied to add the fringe. The fringe goes through the loops formed by the yarn overs at the beginning of each row
