Knit Baby Set (Sacque, Cap, Booties, Blanket) by Craft Yarn Council of America
Sizes: 6 mos – 1 yr., chest size: 21 1/2 ”, finished size: 22”.
Materials Needed:
15 ounces [429 grams] worsted weight yarn
#8 straight knitting needles
1 stitch holder
1 1/4 yd 3/8” ribbon
Gauge: stockinette stitch on #8 needles, 9 sts = 2”, 6 rows = 1”. Be sure your own gauge corresponds with this gauge. Adjust needle size if necessary.
Sacque
Back: Cast on 50 sts.
Row 1: Work in garter stitch (k every row) for 6 rows.
Row 7: Work in stockinette stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row). Work until piece measures 7” from beg. Last row is a p row.
Note: Width across back is 11”.
Sleeve Shaping: Cast on 24 sts at end of just worked p row. There are now 74 sts.
Next Row: k across row. Cast on 24 sts. There are now 98 sts.
Row 1: K5, p across row, end k 5 for cuff.
Row 2: k across row.
Row 3: Rep Rows 1 and 2 to 4” above last cast on sts. Last row is a right side row.
Neck:
Row 1: Work 39 sts and slip to stitch holder. Bind off 20 sts for neck. Work rem 39 sts.
Row 2: Work on 39 sts for 4 rows in stockinette stitch.
Row 6: Work across row. Inc 1 st at end or row for neck edge, and 1 st at same edge every other row 2 times more. There are now 42 sts.
Next Row: Work 42 sts for 2 rows in stockinette stitch. Cast on 9 sts at end of last row for front edge. There are now 51 sts.
Row 11: k5 for front border, p to last 5 sts, k5.
Row 12: k.
Row 13: Rep Rows 11 and 12 until sleeve measures 8”, end at cuff edge.
Next Row: Bind off 24 sts at beg or row, work across row. Working in garter stitch at front edge work on the 27 sts to match back to garter stitch border. Then k 6 rows. Bind off. Slip sts off holder onto needle with the point of the needle at neck edge. Join yarn and work across 39 sts. Work 3 more rows (4 rows worked).
Next Row: Inc 1 st at beg of row, and 1 st at same edge every other row twice more. End at cuff edge. There are now 42 sts.
Next row: Work across row in stockinette stitch. Cast on 9 sts at end of row for front edge. There are now 51 sts. Finish same as other side. Bind off.
Neckband: With right side facing, starting at right front edge, pick up and k 13 sts along neck edge, pick up and k 20 sts along back of neck edge, pick up and k 13 sts along left front neck edge. There are now 46 sts.
Next Row: k across row for 6 rows. Bind off.
Finishing: Sew underarm and sleeve seams. Trim with ribbon ties.
Cap
Cast on 50 sts.
Row 1: Work in garter stitch (k every row) for 18 rows.
Row 19: Work in stockinette stitch (k one row, p one row) for 16 rows.
Row 34: Bind off 19 sts at beg of row, k to end. There are now 31 sts.
Row 35: Bind off 19 sts at beg of row, p to end. There are now 12 sts.
Row 36: Work in stockinette stitch for 24 rows. Bind off. Sew the 19 bound off sts to each side of narrow strip on wrong side of work.
Neckband: With right side facing, at left front, pick up and k 60 sts. K 4 rows. Bind off. Trim with ribbon ties.
Booties
Cast on 40 sts.
Rows 1-4: Work in stockinette stitch (k one row, p one row).
Row 5: K 16, k2tog, place marker, k2tog, k 16.
Note: Be sure to slip markers every row.
Row 6: P to 2 sts before marker, p2tog, p4, p2tog, p to end or row.
Row 7: K to 2 sts before marker, k2tog, k4, k2tog, k to end of row.
Rows 8-13: Rep Rows 6 and 7, 3 more times. There are now 22 sts.
Rows 14-18: Work in stockinette stitch for 5 rows.
Row 19: Work in garter stitch for 6 rows. Bind off. Make other bootie the same way.
Finishing: Sew seam at back and sole.
Blanket
Blanket Size: Approx 24 1/2 ” x 22 1/2 ”
Cast on 110 sts.
Rows 1-6: K.
Row 7: K5, p100, k5.
Row 8: K across row.
Rep Rows 7 and 8 until piece measures 27” or desired length.
Next Row: K 6 rows. Bind off.
Note: To personalize your baby set. Decorate with French Knots, Cross Stitch or Duplicate Stitch.

Ripple Baby Blanket
6 skeins worsted weight yarn
29” circular size 6 knitting needle or whatever sized needle is needed to produce the gauge
size: 37” x 37” or desired length
gauge: 34 sts = 7 1/4 ”
For Adult sized afghan, use 7 pattern repeats plus add 6 sts each side for border = 250 sts. Work 6 rows of k, instead of the 3 listed in the pattern, at the beg and end of afghan for border.
Very loosely, cast-on 176 sts.
Rows 1-3: k across.
Row 4: k 3, p across to last 3 sts, k3.
Row 5: k 3, k2tog 5 times, YO, (K 1, YO) 5 times, *k2tog 6 times, YO, (k 1, YO) 5 times*, repeat *.* across to last 9 sts. k2tog 3 times, k 3.
Rows 6-7: k across.
Repeat rows 4-7 until blanket measures approximately 36” or desired length, ending with row 7. Bind off loosely.

Hat From Top Down (Adult or Child)
3 oz worsted weight yarn
#6 double point knitting needles
#6 16” circular knitting needle

Cast on 8 sts, divide onto 3 double point needles (3,3,2).
Round 1. Join the 3 needles and inc 1 st in each st (16 sts).
Round 2 and all even numbered rounds: K around.
Round 3: *inc, k1* rep *.* around (24 sts).
Round 5: *inc, k2* rep *.* around (32 sts).
Round 7: *inc, k3* rep *.* around (40 sts).
Round 9: *inc, k4* rep *.* around (48 sts).
Round 11: *inc, k5* rep *.* around (56 sts).
Continue adding 8 sts every other round until top of cap is 3” for child sized hat or 4” for adult sized hat. Change to circular needles and work *k2, p2* ribbing for 7” or desired length. A deep turned-up hat should be about 11”. Bind off. Draw in top 8 sts.

Ruffled Baby Booties
baby yarn
#3 knitting needles or whatever size needles needed to produce gauge
1/4 ” ribbon
gauge: 7 sts = 7 sts, 10 rows = 1”
SOLE: Loosely cast on 36 sts.
Row 1: k 17, place marker, k2, place marker, k17.
Row 2, 4: k across.
Row 3: K1, inc, k to within 1 sts of marker, inc, k2, inc, k to last 2 sts, inc, k1 (40 sts).
Repeat Rows 3 & 4 four times (56 sts).
SIDES: Rows 1-11” *k1, k 1 into st in row below* rep *.* to last 2 sts, k2.
Row 12: *p1, k 1 into st in row below* rep *.* to last 2 sts, p2.
INSTEP:
Row 1: k33, sl 1 as to k, k1, psso, turn.
Row 2: sl l as to p, p10, p2tog, turn.
Row 3: sl 1 as to k, k10, sl 1 as to k, k1, psso, turn.
Repeat Rows 2 & 3 until 38 sts, ending Row 2, turn.
Row 4: Sl 1 as to k, k24.
Row 5: P across.
Row 6: *k2tog, yo* rep *.* across.
Work 7 rows of stockinette, ending with p row.
Ruffle: Row 1-3: k1, *yo, k1* rep *.* across. Bind off loosely.
Sew sole and back seams. Run ribbon through eyelets and tie in front.

Slipper Socks
2 oz worsted weight yarn
#2, #5, #7 knitting needles
With #7 needle, cast on 48 sts. Work 18 rows of garter stitch by k each row. Change to #5 needle and work k1, p1 ribbing for 4 rows. Change to #2 needles and work k2, p2 ribbing for 8 rows. Change to #5 needle and work k1, p1 ribbing for 4 rows. Change to #7 needles and knit 18 rows. Bind off.
Finishing: Fold and sew bound off stitches to cast on stitches. Sew up one end for toe. Optional: trim with pom pom if desired.
Note: for two colored socks, use contrasting color when knitting with #5 needles and use main color yarn when using #7 needles.

Classic Knitted Slippers
2 oz worsted weight yarn
#7 knitting needle
Note: Use double strand of yarn throughout.
Cast on 23 sts.
Row 1: knit.
Row 2: k7, p1, k7, p1, k7.
Repeat these two rows for 13 ridges.
Change to k1, p1 ribbing for 2”.
Break yarn (do not bind off). Thread yarn needle and draw through all stitches. Sew up ribbing for toe. Sew other end for heel. Optional: Make a pom pom and stitch to front of slipper.
